What forms do I need to bring with me for tax preparation?
Bring your prior year tax return, all w-2s, 1099s, 1098s, and all other relevant information including names, social security numbers and date of births of all of your dependents. It is always better to bring all the information to the tax appointment. For detailed information, please refer to our Documents List. For stocks, please download and complete our Stock Template Form.
You should try to contact your employer to obtain a duplicate W-2. If no W-2 is received before February 15th, call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 for assistance. The IRS will then issue you form 4852.
I have not received all documents yet. Can I file my taxes based on the forms I have?
You should bring in all W-2, W-2c and 1099-R forms to your appointment. If you do not have these forms, contact your employer or payer or the IRS. For other forms, partial filing may create extra work for you, as well as possible additional future preparation fees, as you would be filing amendment to your taxes as soon as you collect or gather all the information. Our suggestion in such cases, is to pay all taxes based on your estimated numbers and request extension of time to file, and file your tax returns once you have your complete documentation.
I have lot of stock transactions. Can I list them in my own spreadsheet and attach them with the tax return?
Yes, you can provided the spreadsheet in a format that replicates the IRS format and includes all required pertinent information. A template that we can utilize to import the stock data to your return is also available on our web site.
